microdermabrasion facial.jpeg

Wet / Dry Microdermbrasion Facial

A diamond tip microdermabrasion facial is an exfoliation facial treatment that uses a wand with a diamond-encrusted tip to gently remove dead skin cells from the surface of your skin. Diamond Microdermabrasion offers a precise and controlled exfoliation. We can perform microdermbrasion wet or dry. If wet, we use hyaluronic Acid with water and suction on the skin.

Here’s how it works: during the facial, we use the diamond-tipped wand to polish your skin, while a suction mechanism simultaneously lifts away the exfoliated cells. This dual action helps clear clogged pores, smooth rough textured skin, reduces the appearance of fine lines, and improve skin tone. It’s often less irritating than other exfoliation methods and suitable for various skin types, especially for those looking to refresh their skin without significant downtime.

Here’s how a typical microdermabrasion facial is performed:

  1. Cleansing: The skin is thoroughly cleansed to remove makeup, oils, and impurities.

  2. Exfoliation with Microdermabrasion Device: We may apply Hyaluronic Acid or use dry microdermabrasion to gently remove dead skin cells. The process is painless and feels like a mild scratching or sandpaper-like sensation.

  3. Hydration and Soothing Mask: After exfoliation, a hydrating or calming mask is applied to soothe the skin and replenish moisture. This step helps reduce any temporary redness and enhances the skin’s post-treatment glow.

  4. Serums and Moisturizers: Products rich in antioxidants, peptides, or hyaluronic acid are applied to nourish the skin, which can absorb these products more effectively after microdermabrasion.

  5. Sunscreen: A broad-spectrum sunscreen is applied as the final step to protect the freshly exfoliated skin, which is more sensitive to sun exposure.

Microdermabrasion facials are suitable for most skin types and are relatively gentle, though they may not be recommended for those with active acne, rosacea, or very sensitive skin. The treatment requires no downtime, and many clients see an immediate improvement in skin brightness and texture. For optimal results, microdermabrasion is often recommended as a series of treatments spaced a few weeks apart.

Diamond tip microdermabrasion is particularly beneficial for clients with dull, uneven skin tone, mild acne scars, or age spots. Results are usually noticeable right away, with smoother, more radiant skin, though a series of sessions can produce even greater improvements in overall skin health and appearance.

This facial is gentle enough to be combined with other treatments like LED, Oxygen and Hydrapurge for a customized and effective skin care experience.

Hydro Facial

A Hydro Facial on-invasive, multi-step facial treatment that combines deep cleansing, exfoliation, extraction, hydration, and antioxidant protection in a single session. It uses a specialized machine with a unique, spiral-tip wand that delivers various serums to the skin while providing gentle suction to remove impurities from pores.

Here’s a breakdown of the process:

  1. Cleansing and Exfoliation: The Hydro Facial starts with a gentle cleanse and exfoliation to remove dead skin cells and uncover a fresh layer of skin. The spiral tip of the wand loosens up dirt and debris, allowing for a more thorough cleansing.

  2. Gentle Acid Peel: A mild glycolic and/or salicylic acid peel is then applied to further exfoliate and loosen impurities without the redness or peeling of a traditional chemical peel. This step helps unclog pores and prepare the skin for extraction.

  3. Extraction: Using a painless vortex-suction technique, the Hydapurge Facial machine removes debris from pores, which helps with blackheads, whiteheads, and other congestion.

  4. Hydration: Once the skin is cleared, a customized mix of hydrating and nourishing serums is infused into the skin. These serums can contain hyaluronic acid, peptides, and antioxidants, which help hydrate, plump, and protect the skin.

  5. Protection and Boosting: The final step often includes a protective layer of serums to seal in the hydration and enhance the skin’s natural glow.

The Hydro Facial is suitable for most skin types, including sensitive skin, and requires no downtime, making it a popular choice for those looking for instant results. It addresses various skin concerns, including fine lines, wrinkles, enlarged pores, oily or congested skin, hyperpigmentation, and overall skin texture. Many clients notice smoother, brighter skin after a single session, but results improve with regular treatments. Optional Add ons: Dermaplaning, LED, Oxygen and Light Peel.

Dermaplaning Facial

A dermaplaning facial is an exfoliating treatment that involves gently scraping the surface of the skin with a sterile, medical-grade scalpel to remove dead skin cells and fine vellus hair, commonly known as “peach fuzz.” This method leaves the skin smooth, refreshed, and allows for better absorption of skin care products.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Preparation: Your skin will be cleansed and a light application of oil will be applied to your skin.

  2. Dermaplaning: Using a surgical scalpel held at a precise angle, using gently strokes the skin to remove the top layer of dead skin cells and fine hair. .

  3. Post-Exfoliation Treatment: After your dermaplaning facial, the skin is  treated with a cocktail of serums. Without the barrier of dead skin cells and fine hair, these products penetrate more deeply, making the skin feel even softer and more nourished.

  4. Finishing Touch: A soothing moisturizer and sunscreen applied at the end of the treatment to protect the freshly exfoliated skin.

Dermaplaning is suitable for most skin types, especially those with dry or rough skin, uneven texture, or dull complexion. It’s an effective way to achieve smooth, radiant skin and a brighter overall appearance without downtime. The results are immediate, with makeup often going on more smoothly and looking more natural after the treatment. However, those with active acne or very sensitive skin might want to avoid dermaplaning, as it could cause irritation. One of the question we get asked often is "will dermaplaning make my hair grow back in thicker and darker"?

No, a dermaplaning facial does not cause hair to grow back thicker or darker. Dermaplaning involves gently scraping off dead skin cells and fine vellus hair (often referred to as "peach fuzz") from the surface of the skin using a specialized blade. This technique only removes hair at the surface level and does not affect the hair follicle or its growth pattern.

Why Hair Growth is Not Affected:

  • Type of Hair: Dermaplaning targets vellus hair, which is naturally fine and light. Removing this hair doesn’t alter its characteristics because it doesn’t reach the root or impact the hair follicle.

  • Growth Patterns: Hair thickness, color, and growth rate are determined by genetics and hormones, not by surface-level removal techniques like dermaplaning.

After dermaplaning, hair may feel slightly different when it grows back simply because it was cut at an angle, but it will return with the same texture and color as before. Dermaplaning is a safe and effective method to achieve smoother, brighter skin without changing hair characteristics.

The effects of a dermaplaning facial generally last about 3–4 weeks, after which the skin's natural cycle will have generated new dead skin cells and fine hair. This facial is great paired with a light peel, LED, Oxygen and/or hydrapurge.

LED Facial
led facial.jpg

LED Facial

An LED facial is a non-invasive treatment that uses light-emitting diode (LED) technology to rejuvenate and treat various skin concerns. During the facial, different colors of light are emitted onto the skin, each with specific wavelengths that penetrate different depths of the skin. The treatment is painless, requires no downtime, and is often used in combination with other facial treatments such as Dermaplaning, Microdermabrasion and Hydrapurge for enhanced results.

Here’s an overview of how it works:

  1. Cleansing: We start by cleansing the skin to ensure it’s free of makeup, oil, and impurities.

  2. LED Light Therapy: The light device will be used directly over the skin. Depending on the desired outcome, different light colors and wavelengths are selected:

    • Red Light: Helps stimulate collagen production, reduce fine lines, and improve elasticity, making it ideal for anti-aging and skin rejuvenation.

    • Blue Light: Targets acne-causing bacteria to help reduce breakouts, making it effective for acne-prone skin.

  3. Aftercare: Since the treatment is gentle, there’s typically no need for special aftercare.  We will apply a hydrating serum or moisturizer to lock in moisture and provide added benefits.

LED facials are suitable for most skin types and can be customized to target specific concerns, such as acne, fine lines, and uneven skin tone. Sessions are usually quick, taking around 20–30 minutes of your facial (50 mins) and are painless and relaxing.

To see long-term results, multiple sessions are often recommended, as LED light therapy works cumulatively. With regular treatments, many clients notice improvements in skin texture, clarity, and radiance.

O2 Infusion Facial

An O2 Infusion Facial is a treatment designed to hydrate and revitalize the skin by infusing it with oxygen and various skin-boosting ingredients, such as vitamins, antioxidants, and hyaluronic acid. This facial aims to improve skin hydration, enhance radiance, and promote a more youthful appearance.

Here’s how a typical O2 Infusion facial works:

  1. Cleansing and Exfoliation: Your skin will be cleansed and gently exfoliated to remove impurities and dead skin cells. This prepares the skin to absorb the oxygen and nutrients more effectively.

  2. Oxygen Infusion: Using a specialized device, airbrushed oxygen is delivered to the skin’s surface in a gentle, cooling mist. The oxygen is combined with a custom mix of serums tailored to the client’s skin needs, including antioxidants, peptides, vitamins, or hyaluronic acid.

  3. Nourishing Mask or Serum: After the oxygen infusion, we will apply a hydrating serum and moisturizer to further enhance the skin’s glow.

  4. Finishing Touch: A moisturizer and sunscreen are applied to protect the skin and seal in the effects of the facial.

Oxygen is believed to help boost cell turnover and improve circulation, promoting a fresher and more radiant appearance. The added serums hydrate and plump the skin, making it appear smoother and more supple immediately after the treatment.

The O2 facial is a gentle, non-invasive treatment that is suitable for nearly all skin types, including sensitive skin. It is often used by those looking for an instant glow, especially before special occasions, as it provides a smooth, luminous finish without any downtime. The effects typically last about a week, though regular treatments can improve long-term hydration and skin texture. This treatment pairs well with our Dermaplaning Facial, LED Facial, Hydrapurge Facial, Microdermabrasion Facial, Radio Frequency Facial, Galvanic Facial and Hydrabrasion Facial.

Lymphatic Drainage Facial

A lymphatic drainage facial is a specialized facial that uses gentle, rhythmic massage techniques to encourage the movement of lymph fluid through the face and neck. The lymphatic system is responsible for flushing out toxins, excess fluids, and waste, and this type of facial supports its function, helping to reduce puffiness, improve circulation, and promote a brighter, healthier complexion.

Here’s a breakdown of our lymphatic drainage facial:

  1. Cleansing: Your Facial begins by a thorough cleansing the skin to remove makeup, oil, and impurities.

  2. Lymphatic Massage: Using light, gentle, and rhythmic pressure, we perform a series of strokes designed to stimulate lymph flow. The massage usually starts at the neck and moves upward to the face, as the lymph fluid naturally drains downward. We also use a glass tube called Ventouse with suction to help move the lymph. We may also use specific tools, like jade rollers, gua sha stones to enhance the effect.

  3. Hydration and Mask: After the massage, a hydrating or soothing mask is often applied to lock in moisture and provide further skin benefits.

  4. Finishing Steps: The facial is usually completed with a serum, moisturizer, and sunscreen to protect and nourish the skin.

Lymphatic drainage facials are particularly beneficial for those who experience puffiness, dark circles under the eyes, or a dull complexion. They are also known to relieve sinus congestion, reduce water retention, and promote relaxation, leaving the face looking more sculpted and radiant.

Since this facial is very gentle, it’s suitable for most skin types, including sensitive skin. While the effects are often visible immediately, with reduced puffiness and a healthy glow, regular treatments can help maintain skin clarity and support ongoing detoxification. If you are looking for additional benefits, we recommend adding on LED or 02 Infusion.

Pregnancy Facial

A pregnancy facial is a gentle and customized facial treatment designed to address the unique skin concerns that can arise during pregnancy. Hormonal changes often affect the skin, leading to issues like dryness, increased sensitivity, acne, or pigmentation (melasma). A pregnancy facial uses safe, non-irritating ingredients and techniques to improve skin health, boost hydration, and enhance radiance without compromising the safety of the mother or baby.

Here's what a typical pregnancy facial includes:

  1. Cleansing: Your skin is cleansed with a gentle, pregnancy-safe cleanser to remove impurities without stripping the skin.

  2. Exfoliation: A mild, non-chemical exfoliation technique, such as an enzyme-based mask or gentle scrub, is used to remove dead skin cells. Hydrapurge, Microdermabrasion, Hydrabrasion or Dermaplaning may be incorporated into your facial.

  3. Extraction (optional): For clients with clogged pores or acne, light extractions may be performed to reduce breakouts. This step is done carefully, as skin can be more sensitive during pregnancy.

  4. Hydration and Soothing Mask: Our Pregnancy facials often incorporate deeply hydrating masks, especially those with calming and nourishing ingredients like hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, or chamomile. These help restore moisture and soothe any irritation.

  5. Pregnancy-Safe Serums and Moisturizers: During your facial, serums and moisturizers that are free from retinoids, high concentrations of acids, and other potentially harmful ingredients may be used and Products with antioxidants like vitamin C may be used to boost radiance and combat pigmentation.

  6. Finishing Touch: Sunscreen is essential, as pregnancy can increase skin sensitivity to the sun. A mineral-based SPF is typically applied to protect the skin .

Our Pregnancy facials avoid certain products, such as retinoids, high doses of salicylic acid, and hydroquinone, which are not recommended during pregnancy. The treatment is designed to be both effective and relaxing, offering a safe way to help our pregnant clients feel pampered and address skin changes. Regular pregnancy facials can help maintain skin health and minimize common pregnancy-related skin issues, leaving the skin feeling refreshed, hydrated, and glowing. Galvanic Facial

For Anti-aging:

Galvanic technology is used to enhance the effectiveness of age-fighting ingredients and stimulate skin rejuvenation. By using a gentle electrical current, galvanic facials help promote collagen production, improves skin elasticity, and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Here’s how galvanic facials specifically support anti-aging benefits:

  1. Deeper Product Penetration: The galvanic current helps push anti-aging serums—such as those containing peptides, antioxidants, and hyaluronic acid—deep into the skin. This process, called iontophoresis, increases product absorption, allowing these ingredients to work more effectively in hydrating, plumping, and firming the skin.

  2. Increased Circulation: Galvanic current improves blood flow to the treated area, which nourishes skin cells and encourages cellular regeneration. Increased circulation can help bring more oxygen and nutrients to the skin, resulting in a brighter, more youthful glow.

  3. Stimulation of Collagen Production: Galvanic facials can trigger the production of collagen, which is essential for maintaining skin’s firmness and elasticity. By encouraging collagen synthesis, galvanic facials can help reduce sagging and smooth out fine lines and wrinkles.

  4. Improvement in Skin Texture and Tone: Regular galvanic treatments can also help refine skin texture by improving cell turnover and aiding in the elimination of toxins. This helps reduce uneven skin tone, minimize pores, and create a smoother, more even complexion.

  5. Hydration Boost: Anti-aging treatments often incorporate deeply hydrating ingredients, and galvanic current helps these products penetrate deeper, boosting hydration. Proper hydration can help plump up the skin, making fine lines and wrinkles less noticeable.

By addressing multiple signs of aging, galvanic facials provide a comprehensive approach to rejuvenating the skin. Regular galvanic treatments can offer cumulative benefits, enhancing skin elasticity, firmness, and a youthful glow over time.

For Acne:

In acne facials, galvanic treatments are used to help clear clogged pores, reduce inflammation, and improve the overall health of the skin. The galvanic current works to address acne in several ways, primarily through its ability to cleanse the skin deeply, kill acne-causing bacteria, and enhance the absorption of acne-fighting ingredients. Here’s how galvanic technology is used to treat acne in facials:

  1. Deep Pore Cleansing: During the galvanic treatment, the skin is first treated with a positively charged product, which helps to soften pores and loosen up impurities like oil, dirt, and dead skin cells. The galvanic device is then used to apply a negative current, which helps draw out these impurities, unclogging the pores and preventing the formation of acne lesions.

  2. Desincrustation: The galvanic current also aids in the desincrustation process, which is a technique used to break down sebum and debris trapped in pores. The negatively charged ions from the device interact with the positively charged acne-causing bacteria and oil in the pores, helping to flush out and eliminate blockages, making it easier for the skin to breathe.

  3. Reduction of Acne-Causing Bacteria: The galvanic treatment helps to kill acne-causing bacteria by enhancing the delivery of antibacterial ingredients such as salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide into the skin. The improved absorption allows these active ingredients to more effectively target and kill bacteria beneath the skin’s surface.

  4. Reducing Inflammation: Galvanic current can stimulate circulation, which increases blood flow to the skin and encourages the healing of acne lesions. It also promotes a reduction in redness and swelling, leading to less inflamed breakouts.

  5. Enhanced Absorption of Healing Ingredients: After the deep cleansing and desincrustation steps, galvanic technology can be used with negatively charged anti-acne serums, such as those containing salicylic acid or tea tree oil. The galvanic current helps drive these active ingredients deeper into the skin, where they can more effectively treat the root causes of acne and reduce future breakouts.

  6. Smoother Skin Texture: As the galvanic facial improves acne and clears pores, it also helps with the healing of post-acne scars. The increased circulation promotes collagen production, which can help improve skin texture and reduce scarring over time.

Incorporating galvanic treatment into acne facials is a non-invasive way to help prevent and treat acne while supporting the skin’s overall health. It’s particularly beneficial for individuals with oily, congested, or acne-prone skin, offering a deep cleanse and targeted treatment that helps prevent future breakouts.

radiofrequency.jpeg

Radio Frequency Facial

A radio frequency (RF) facial is a non-invasive skin treatment that uses radio frequency energy to stimulate the deeper layers of the skin, promoting collagen production, tightening, and rejuvenation. It is primarily used for anti-aging purposes, such as reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin. RF facials can also improve skin texture, tone, and overall radiance.

Here’s how a typical radio frequency facial works:

1. The skin is cleansed to remove makeup, oil, and impurities before the treatment begins.

2. Application of RF energy: A specialized handheld device is used to deliver radio frequency energy to the skin. The RF waves penetrate the dermis (the deeper layer of skin) without damaging the surface, creating controlled heat. This heat causes the tissue to contract, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin, two proteins essential for maintaining skin firmness and elasticity.

3. Collagen Stimulation: The RF energy heats the skin and underlying layers, prompting the body's natural healing response. Over time, this stimulation promotes the production of new collagen and tightens the skin. Collagen is key in keeping the skin plump, firm, and youthful.

4.After the RF energy has been applied, a hydrating serum or moisturizer is often used to replenish moisture and lock in the effects of the treatment. Sunscreen may also be applied if the treatment is done during the day.

  • Tightening and Firming: RF energy helps tighten the skin by stimulating collagen production, which can reduce the appearance of sagging, especially around the jawline, neck, and cheeks.

  • Reduction of Fine Lines and Wrinkles: Regular RF facials can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, offering a smoother and more youthful complexion.

  • Improved Skin Texture and Tone: The collagen boost can improve skin texture, minimize pores, and even out skin tone, giving the face a smoother, more radiant look.

  • Non-Invasive: One of the key benefits of RF facials is that they are non-surgical, with no needles or incisions involved, making them a popular choice for individuals who want to avoid more invasive procedures like facelifts.

  • No Downtime: RF facials are non-invasive with no downtime. Clients can return to their normal activities immediately after the treatment.

Radio frequency facials are suitable for most skin types and can be used to treat mild to moderate signs of aging. They are especially effective for those looking for a non-invasive way to improve skin tone, texture, and elasticity. RF treatments are generally safe but should be avoided by individuals with certain conditions like pacemakers, metal implants, or pregnancy.

Although results can be seen after a single treatment, the best outcomes are usually achieved with a series of treatments spaced 1-2 weeks apart. Over time, the skin will continue to improve as new collagen is produced, and the effects can last for several months. Regular maintenance sessions can help maintain the results.

Acne Facial

An acne facial is a specialized facial designed to treat and manage acne, targeting the causes of breakouts and improving the overall appearance of acne-prone skin. The benefits of an acne facial go beyond simply clearing up current breakouts; it can help prevent future ones, improve skin texture, and reduce scarring. Here’s a detailed look at the benefits:

1. Deep Cleansing of the Pores. One of the primary benefits of an acne facial is the deep cleansing of clogged pores. We use Hydrapurge in the Tzone to help clear blackheads. After Hydrapurge, Galvanic for acne is used to liquify the pores and ultrasonic vibrations (30,000 per second) to help prepare and soften the pores for extractions.  We perform 10-15 mins of extractions removing blackheads, whiteheads, and other impurities that contribute to acne. By clearing out these blockages, the facial helps prevent future breakouts.

2.Blue LED is used to reduce Inflammation and Redness. Acne can cause inflammation, redness, and irritation, especially when cystic or inflammatory acne is present. We use a soothing acne mask that help calm the skin, reduce redness, and minimize swelling. Anti-inflammatory ingredients, like aloe vera or chamomile, may be used to soothe irritated skin.

3. Control of Oil Production. Excess oil production is one of the primary causes of acne. Your acne facial may include Salicylic Acid to regulate sebum production, helping to control oily skin. This reduces the likelihood of clogged pores, which can lead to breakouts.

Acne can often leave the skin with rough texture, scars, or uneven skin tone. Acne facials can help improve skin texture by exfoliating the skin and encouraging the removal of dead skin cells. Chemical exfoliants (like salicylic acid) or physical exfoliants are used to help smooth the skin and promote cell turnover, revealing healthier skin underneath.

4. Targeted Acne Products are used. Acne facials use products that are specifically designed for acne-prone skin. These products often contain ingredients like salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, tea tree oil, or retinoids, which are known for their ability to fight acne-causing bacteria, reduce inflammation, and prevent future breakouts. These active ingredients can deeply penetrate the skin, addressing acne at its source.

5. Prevention of Future Breakouts. In addition to treating existing acne, the facial helps prevent future breakouts by improving overall skin health. Regular acne facials can help balance the skin, reduce oil buildup, and ensure the skin is better able to fight off bacteria that cause acne.

6.Reduced Scarring and Hyperpigmentation. Over time, acne can leave behind scars and dark spots (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation). Acne facials help by stimulating collagen production, improving skin elasticity, and speeding up the healing process. This can lead to a reduction in the appearance of scars and dark spots, leaving the skin looking clearer and more even-toned..

7. Customized Treatment for your skin type.  facials can be tailored to your unique skin needs, whether you have oily, dry, sensitive, or combination skin. We will select specific products and techniques that are best suited for your skin type, ensuring the treatment is effective and gentle.

8. No Downtime. Unlike more invasive acne treatments, acne facials are non-invasive and typically have minimal to no downtime. While there might be some temporary redness following extractions or treatments, most people can resume their normal activities right after the facial.

9.Education and Skincare Routine. Our acne facial often includes a consultation where the we will give you advice on how to manage acne at home. This could include recommendations for the right skincare products, lifestyle changes, or techniques to keep your skin clear between facials.

Who Can benefit from Acne Facials?

Collagen Induction

A Collagen Induction facial is a skin treatment that uses a device with fine needles to create tiny, controlled punctures in the skin. These micro-injuries stimulate the skin’s natural healing processes, boosting collagen and elastin production. It’s a popular treatment for reducing fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, and other skin texture issues, promoting a smoother, more youthful complexion.

How a Collagen Induction Facial Works:

  1. Preparation and Numbing: The skin is cleansed, and a topical numbing cream is applied to minimize discomfort.

  2. Microneedling Device: A device with fine, sterile needles creates small punctures in the skin's surface, which encourages cell turnover and collagen production.

  3. Serum Application: During or after the procedure, serums (often with hyaluronic acid, vitamins, or peptides) are applied. The tiny channels in the skin allow the serums to penetrate deeply, enhancing the effects.

  4. Aftercare: Post-treatment, the skin may be red and sensitive, similar to a mild sunburn. Specific aftercare instructions are provided to aid healing and protect the skin.

Benefits of a Collagen Induction Facial:

  • Boosts Collagen Production: Helps firm the skin and reduce signs of aging by increasing collagen levels.

  • Improves Texture and Tone: Minimizes the appearance of acne scars, enlarged pores, and uneven skin tone.

  • Reduces Fine Lines and Wrinkles: Helps soften wrinkles and fine lines, promoting a smoother appearance.

  • Enhances Product Absorption: Allows for deeper penetration of serums and skin care products.

Ideal Candidates:

Collagen Induction/Microneedling is suitable for most skin types, though it may not be recommended for those with certain conditions (like active acne or eczema) or those prone to keloid scarring.

This minimally invasive treatment typically has little downtime and can be repeated periodically for ongoing improvement. The results are gradual, with noticeable skin improvements emerging over several weeks as collagen production increases.

Chemical Peels

These are the types of chemical peels that we use at Facial Theory. These peels exfoliate the skin using various acids to address different skin concerns, such as acne, fine lines, hyperpigmentation, and uneven texture. Each peel has its unique properties, penetration depth, and benefits, which make them suitable for specific skin types and issues. Here’s a breakdown of each:

  • Strength & Depth: TCA is a medium-to-deep peel, depending on its concentration. Higher concentrations penetrate deeper into the skin.

  • Uses: TCA peels are used to treat deeper skin issues, such as severe sun damage, wrinkles, acne scars, and pigmentation. They can also help with skin texture.

  • Benefits: Reduces visible signs of aging, improves skin tone, and softens the appearance of scars.

  • Recovery: TCA peels do have downtime ranging from a 5-7 days depending on the peel strength. Expect redness, peeling, and some sensitivity while the skin heals.

Jessner Peel

  • Components: Jessner’s peel is a blend of salicylic acid, lactic acid, and resorcinol.

  • Strength & Depth: This is a medium-depth peel, designed to penetrate deeper than superficial peels but less than deep peels like higher-concentration TCA.

  • Uses: It is effective for treating acne, hyperpigmentation, melasma, and sun damage, as well as improving overall skin texture.

  • Benefits: Balances oil production, reduces acne, exfoliates, and improves skin tone.

  • Recovery: Some flaking and redness are expected, with downtime generally around 3-7 days.

Lactic Acid Peel

  • Strength & Depth: Lactic acid is a mild, superficial peel, which is often considered one of the gentler peels and is great for beginners.

  • Uses: This peel is beneficial for dry, sensitive skin and mild pigmentation issues. It’s also suitable for people with rosacea, as it’s less likely to cause irritation.

  • Benefits: Lactic acid hydrates, brightens, and exfoliates the skin without being overly aggressive. It can also help reduce fine lines and improve skin tone.

  • Recovery: Little to no downtime, with mild redness or flaking possible.

Glycolic Acid Peel

  • Strength & Depth: Glycolic acid is a superficial-to-medium depth peel, depending on concentration. It is an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) derived from sugarcane and has the smallest molecular size, allowing it to penetrate the skin more effectively.

  • Uses: Glycolic peels are popular for treating signs of aging, such as fine lines, dullness, mild acne scars, and uneven skin tone.

  • Benefits: Glycolic acid stimulates collagen production, exfoliates dead skin cells, improves skin texture, and brightens the complexion.

  • Recovery: Minimal downtime, although there may be slight redness and flakiness. It’s essential to use sunscreen after a glycolic peel, as the skin can be more photosensitive.

Salicylic Acid Peel

  • Strength & Depth: Salicylic acid is a superficial peel and is a beta hydroxy acid (BHA) that is oil-soluble, making it ideal for penetrating oily and congested skin.

  • Uses: This peel is particularly effective for treating acne-prone skin and blackheads. It helps clear out clogged pores, reduce oil production, and exfoliate the surface layer.

  • Benefits: Salicylic acid is anti-inflammatory and antibacterial, making it ideal for reducing active acne, preventing future breakouts, and improving skin texture.

  • Recovery: Little to no downtime, though there might be minor flakiness or dryness. It’s also advisable to avoid sun exposure, as the skin may be more sensitive.

Mandelic Acid Peel

  • Strength & Depth: Mandelic acid is a mild, superficial peel derived from almonds. Its larger molecular structure makes it less penetrating than other AHAs, resulting in a gentler, slower-acting peel.

  • Uses: This peel is suitable for sensitive skin and is effective for acne, rosacea, and mild pigmentation.

  • Benefits: Mandelic acid has antibacterial properties, which can help with acne, and it’s less likely to irritate. It also brightens the skin and improves texture.

  • Recovery: Minimal to no downtime, with very little risk of redness or peeling. It’s gentle enough for sensitive skin types and beginners.

Which peel is right for you?

The best peel depends on your skin type, sensitivity, and specific concerns. Here’s a general guide:

  • Acne-Prone Skin: Salicylic, Jessner’s, or mandelic acid peels are excellent choices, as they target acne and help with oil control.

  • Sensitive Skin: Lactic and mandelic acid peels are gentler and better suited for sensitive skin.

  • Anti-Aging: Glycolic and TCA peels are effective for reducing fine lines and brightening skin tone.

  • Hyperpigmentation: Jessner’s, glycolic, and TCA peels can help lighten dark spots, though TCA is stronger and might be better for more severe pigmentation.
